Why Use A Mobile Hotspot?

Although mobile technology has come a long way in a very short time, the main networks make sure we pay for every ounce of the technology we use. 4G data contracts are actually pretty expensive. And if you want to talk about roaming charges, then it’s better everybody sits down first. Otherwise, knowing the prices charged when you’re not on your home network is likely to knock you off your feet. This is especially true if you’re traveling. We’re not just talking about being out of the country but, sometimes, even out of state depending on your airtime provider.

Using data also drains your battery pretty darned quickly. That means you might be looking for somewhere to charge your phone sooner rather than later. This is where a mobile hotspot comes in. By connecting your phone over secure Wi-Fi to the hotspot, you can use a different network or data package. Data only SIMs are often cheaper than full call/data options. They are also almost certainly cheaper when out of the US than paying roaming charges. Simply pop the SIM of your choice into the hotspot, take a couple of minutes to set it up, and you’ll get 4G speeds without the cost.

Highlights of the ZTE Velocity 2

Speed and reliability are always going to be the core of any data link. Fortunately, the ZTE Velocity 2 provides both. The maximum theoretical speed is 600 Mbps download and 150 Mbps upload. Why “theoretical”? Well, it depends on the network you are connected to. Some networks support higher speeds, and some just perform better than others. In short, the Velocity 2 will be able keep up with your chosen network, wherever you are.

The Wi-Fi network created by the Velocity 2 is dual band. This means all Wi-Fi enabled devices can connect easily. Those supporting the 5GHz band will get a less cluttered connection and potentially faster speeds. Those connecting over 2.4 GHz may have slightly slower speeds due to interference from other electronic devices, but the band has a slightly bigger range and can be more stable in certain conditions. Dual antennae also mean a better signal quality and strength.

Despite the compact size of the ZTE Velocity 2 at just 4.54 x 2.61 x 0.61 inches, and weighing just 4.55 oz, a lot is packed into the hotspot. The 2.4″ color touchscreen makes setup and changing passwords etc. really simple. From unboxing to connecting the first device, it takes just 3 or 4 minutes. The screen is bright and clear, and the layout of the settings is easy and intuitive.

The Power To Deliver

The Velocity 2 has a 3000 mAh battery, providing enough power for up to 12 hrs continual use. This takes all the strain away from the battery in your smartphone. Mobile data uses up to 4 times more power than a Wi-Fi connection. This means your  phone is using the most energy efficient connection there is, but still giving you what you need.

The large battery also means you can connect up to 10 different phones, tablets or other Wi-Fi devices to the ZTE Velocity 2. There’s 512 MB of storage built in, and a Micro SD card slot provides up to another 128 MB. Files can be carried on the Velocity 2 and streamed to connected devices very easily.

You can, if you wish to, set up guest passwords. These are one-use login details which can be time or content limited. You can also add restrictions to other logins to prevent inappropriate content being downloaded.

Global Connection

Because the ZTE Velocity 2 isn’t locked to any network, you can use any SIM on any GSM network in over 160 countries worldwide. This gives you the freedom to use data roaming knowing exactly what it is costing you. Because your phone carries on just as it was, there’s no worry about anybody being unable to contact you in an emergency. The Velocity 2 takes all that hassle away.

Being able to use any mobile hotspot as a connection hub is a great idea. When you can do it as well, and as easily, as you can with the Velocity 2, it’s really a no-brainer.

Let the Velocity 2 do all the work while you reap the rewards.
