Mr Aberthon is proud to present the Pantech Renue. A fantastic phone with a physical keyboard, designed especially for those who need to touch the letters with their fingers.
The Pantech Renue, is still primarily a communications device instead of a smartphone to beat the world. It delivers a look and feel that is probably more in line with what you’d probably expect from a phone producer that is partly owned by Samsung, rather than their flip-top Breeze range.
Where the Renue differs from it’s Breeze brethren, apart from the obvious visual differences, is as a media player. MP4 video playback is now possible, adding a new dimension to passing the time in airports or on long car journeys. A clear bright screen makes viewing a comfortable experience. While possibly not up to the latest Samsung and Apple models, the communication capabilities make it an excellent bridge device between the two genres.
On first look, the Renue has the appearance of a touchscreen smartphone. Yet a closer look shows that it is really more geared to communication than gaming and social media. The 3.2″ touchscreen slides up to reveal a full QWERTY keyboard. It makes sure texting and emailing are as natural as possible for those who prefer the feel of real keys rather than the frustration of auto-correct on-screen keyboards.
The Renue is a device which truly offers the best of both worlds. The high quality display makes watching videos easy and the extended media features allow listening to MP3s a simple process. The interface UI is clear and sharp and allows quick access to 5 customizable screens for the various pre-installed apps and other features.
Or at least Kermit thought so. Actually, the Renue makes great strides in the eco-friendly nature of its construction. As it is made up of more than 2/3 recycled materials. Electronic devices are notorious for being very environmentally unfriendly in both the materials used and the methods of manufacture. So, buying a Renue is doing much more than just getting a great phone.
90% of electronic devices actually end up in landfill, and account for 70% of the harmful heavy metal residue in landfill despite only accounting for 2% of the landfill volume. That Pantech have gone to such lengths to try and help that should be applauded. They’ve also made a phone so good that being a conscientious buyer no longer needs to mean massive compromises.
The Pantech Renue isn’t trying to be a full on smartphone. It is much more aligned with app-friendly phones rather than app-centered phones. The priority in this device is calls, texts and even emails rather than the immersive experience modern smartphones use as the major selling point.
The QWERTY keyboard has keys that are easy to use. They are big enough to avoid the common problem of pressing two keys at once. This sure makes texting and emailing a very pleasing experience. As well as the already green credentials it brings out of the manufacturing process, the Renue has an auto-power saving mode for when the battery charge gets low. Instead of a bespoke browser, the Renue utilizes the Mini Opera browser which has long been a favorite of mobile users. This system has a small memory footprint and a range of features.
The Renue includes 200MB of internal memory and is expandable via a microSD cards up to 32GB. That is a very decent space for storing music and videos. The fact that there is no need for a data plan means that you’re not tied into expensive and long contracts in the same way you would be with a smartphone.
If calls and texts are what you need, with the option for sending and receiving emails and maybe doing a bit of browsing, the Renue makes an excellent choice.
