Sonim XP Strike (Unlocked, Brand New)
Out of stock
The Sonim XP Strike is an ultra rugged phone that can survive being dropped on concrete from 6 feet in the air. The XP Strike is military tested to withstand water (30 min submersion), dust and salt fog. This device is a perfect rugged yet simple phone for those working in hazardous conditions.
- IP68 and MIL-STD-810 rated
- GSM Unlocked
- 1950mAh removable battery
Do you need a phone that’s loud and can survive being run over with a forklift? If so, the Sonim XP Strike might be the thing for you.
Now, this isn’t a smartphone, and it doesn’t even support Wi-Fi. However, the XP Strike can survive the harshest conditions out there. That makes it one of the best choices for first responders, construction, and mining crews, and more.
Sonim XP Strike Specs
The XP Strike’s superior strength is its most significant selling point. But this hulk of a device has other tricks up its sleeve.
Durability and Design
A yellow fiberglass case combined with hardened rubber molding makes a statement the moment you get your hands on the XP Strike. Immediately, it’s evident you have something tough to break.
But the use of these materials makes this phone incredibly light at only 6.52 ounces. Also, it’s relatively compact at 4.96 x 2.36 x 0.98 inches. Now, the XP Strike isn’t exactly pocketable, but neither are most other rugged phones.
The best thing about this device is that it ranks beyond the 810G standard for military equipment. And it’s resistant to:
- Extreme temperatures
- Severe dust
- Salt fog
- 5Hz – 200Hz vibrations
- Extreme shocks
The manufacturer also claims that you can drop two-pound rebar on its screen from eight feet, and it won’t break. Nor will it budge should it have a close encounter with a forklift.
Sonim XP Strike Call Quality and Functionality
It’s safe to say that this device is primarily designed for calling. It features EV-DO Rev (dual-band), which offers excellent reception and decent voice quality.
One problem – the earpiece can be loud, and the voice coming over the other end can sometimes sound unnatural. However, this shouldn’t be too much of a problem when you’re at a busy construction site, for example. And the call quality may depend on your carrier as well.
Expect to encounter plenty of side tones with the XP Strike. But that’s a good thing because you won’t be compelled to yell when on the phone.
The XP Strike does an excellent job of removing the background noise, though your call may sound a bit compressed. Ideally, Sonim could do a better job of isolating the voice with a firmware update.
This device supports Bluetooth headsets, but you can’t voice dial. Push-to-talk works great, particularly when on 3G and CDMA networks.
Other than that, the XP Strike has a few essential apps, including:
- Unit Converter
- Telenav GPS
You’ll probably find the GPS app most useful because it gives you turn-by-turn voice directions.
The device features a 1,950mAh battery with an 8-hour talk time. However, unless you use the GPS, there’s very little power demand, so the battery may last more than 10 hours. And you won’t need to recharge the phone for at least a few days with regular use.
Sonim Strikes Back
Okay, the XP Strike may lack Wi-Fi, Android, and a fancy camera. But all that is well compensated with outstanding durability and on-site performance.
You can take this Sonim to places where hardly any other device would survive. When push comes to shove, it’s not like you’d need to send an email or play a video game. Instead, you need a beast that lets you quickly make an SOS call.
