A bonus phone holster is included with each purchase for limited time only.
The Samsung Rugby 4 is the next installment in the highly successful and extremely well regarded Rugby series of “almost indestructible” phones from Samsung. If you live an active lifestyle or are constantly in an environment that requires a rugged phone, the Rugby 4 will be right up your street.
Item number: (SM-B780A)
Samsung deliberately avoided trying to make a phone that was all things to all men when devising the Rugby series. Yet, they have finally given in and added Wi-Fi to the already impressive range of features. With enhanced PPT (Push To Talk) , a built in compass and further enhanced GPS, the Rugby 4 is a great choice for those who need a phone to be rugged enough to stand up to a day’s hiking, mountain biking or even geocaching.
So what’s new? An improved camera, increased internal storage, improved voice commands and even better battery life than the already mightily impressive Rugby 3.
This device makes it a worthy upgrade for the Rugby Series.
To be able to use the Samsung Rugby 4, the sim card that you will need to use will be the micro sim card. The micro sim card is the sim card in the middle of the diagram to the left.
Those who had the Rugby 2 and Rugby 3 and are now upgrading to the Rugby 4 should be aware that the earlier models used the standard size sim card, but the Rugby 4 uses the micro sim card, which is smaller.
You can use the chart to see what size sim card you currently have and compare. This chart is not to scale and so you will need to flip the sim card over and compare the plastic and metal ratio to determine which sim you are holding.
A SIM card adapter can be found online at a very low price if you currently have a different sized sim card. The adapter will change the sim card and enable it to fit in the phone without risking its integrity. You can also contact your mobile service provider and they will happily send you a new sim card in the mail, free of charge.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact our customer service. They will be glad to help you.
More and more manufacturers are producing devices that comply with the IP67 Standard. The IP67 Standard means that the device is dust-proof and waterproof to 3 feet for up to 30 minutes. Samsung, it should be noted, have been including IP67 certification in the Rugby series since the Rugby 1.
The Mil-STD 810 is a military grade certification that goes so much further. The standard requires a device to not just be dust and waterproof, but also shock resistant, chemical resistant, protected from thermal shock (sudden changes in temperature), able to combat fungus, humidity, salt fog, extreme vibration, impact and so much more.
Although it probably wouldn’t survive being dropped from a helicopter at 3,000 feet, the Rugby 4 is plenty strong enough to withstand almost anything even the most demanding daily routine can throw at it.
The Rugby 4 complies with the Mil-STD 810f standard of the test. The Mil-STD 810f is basically everything sort of test that you might need before products are used in a military environment. The Ballistic Shock test, for example, means that tested products must withstand a direct hit from a bullet or other projectile.
We don’t recommend trying this yourself, of course, and positively discourage you from seeing how strong the Rugby 4 is by firing a gun at it, but we hope it demonstrates the general level of testing the phone has gone through.
The Samsung Rugby 4, like it’s 3 elder siblings, isn’t designed to be an office in your pocket. It isn’t an iPhone or a Galaxy 8, nor is it intended to be.
The Rugby 4 is intended to be a phone fit for all environments. Try dropping your iPhone onto a hard surface from 3 feet and chances are you’ll be wishing you took out that insurance after all. Drop the Rugby 4 onto a hard surface from twice that and it’s highly likely you’ll just be able to pick it up and carry on as normal. Inevitably, though, producing such a device does mean some compromises in what it can do. In the main, those compromises are probably not an issue for most users of the Rugby 4, but we’ll talk about them anyway.
The Rugby 4 isn’t meant to be an app-laden device. There’s no access to any kind of meaningful app-store. Samsung have included all you need to send and receive e-mails and browse the web. You can also play music, record and playback videos, record audio and use voice commands. There’s also a compass, assisted-GPS and a handful of other useful (if more occasional) apps. Most smartphone users generally only have one of each of those types of app. The ones provided here are perfectly adequate for the job.
By the way, Samsung have seen fit to utilize the Assisted GPS by kindly including turn-by-turn navigation which includes traffic alerts. This alone makes the Rugby 4 a worthwhile upgrade for users of any previous Rugby series device.
First and foremost, the Unlocked Rugby 4 is exactly what Samsung intended it to be. In short, it’s a phone, and a mightily impressive one. The apps are icing on a very tough cake (or cookie).
Mr Aberthon covers the Rugby Samsung 4 during the first 14 days after the purchase, no questions asked. If for any reason the device does not suit your needs, Mr Aberthon will accept it back (so long as it has not been damaged).

A key differences between the Samsung Rugby 4 and other devices is that it is so simple to use. It only weighs just 5oz and it’ll do everything you need without making you read through a 500 page manual first. (Though if you do have any questions about the Rugby 4, please feel free to visit our all-inclusive trouble-shooting guide.)
Okay, so you’d be hard pushed to ever describe the design as “hip” or “hot”. But this incredible little device would never be so shallow as to try and get by just on looks. All those Pageant Queens who want to save the world through modelling? The Rugby series has been taking on our often unforgiving world for years. It has been “knocking it out of the park” from the NY Islands to the California Shore. And it has been doing it without anything resembling a fake smile and glow-in-the-dark teeth.
This land is the Rugby 4’s land.
Q: Does the Rubgy 4 have Bluetooth?
A: Yes it has Bluetooth. It will therefore be able to connect to Bluetooth devices just like any other compatible phone.
Q: Is it fully unlocked?
A: Yes this device is fully unlocked. It is branded as AT&T so will have their logo on it, but it will work on any GSM network. That includes T-Mobile, AT&T, Metro-PCS and those that use their service.
Q: Does it work with Verizon?
A: Verizon is a CDMA network, so it is not compatible. Nor is Sprint which also uses the CDMA system. These networks store the phone number and service on their network vs on a SIM card. It is for this reason that they are not compatible with SIM card operating phones. To learn more about GSM vs CDMA, see our blog post.
Q: What size SIM card does it need?
A: This device needs a Micro SIM. There are three types of SIM cards and this one is the middle size. If you need a new SIM card, contact your network provider for one.
Q: How much internal storage does this phone have?
A: It has 256MB of internal storage. Included as well is a MicroSD card slot that can hold up to another 32GB.
Q: Does the Rugby 4 connect via 4G?
A: Yes this device connects to 4G data. You must have a data package included in your phone plan to receive it.
Q: What is included with this purchase?
A: As with all Mr Aberthon devices, the Rugby 4 comes with a back door, and two piece charger.
Q: Can this phone connect to Wi-Fi?
A: Yes, connecting to Wi-Fi is one of the big upgrades that Samsung did for the Rugby 4. The Rugby devices that were produced before this one are not capable of it. Feel free to connect to Wi-Fi and enjoy!
