It’s no surprise that a lot of Samsung’s time goes into the Galaxy S flagship range. Design, manufacture, marketing, the Galaxy S is king. What it means, is that some other Samsung releases don’t get the attention they deserve. One of these is the J3 Prime. It is a slightly lighter-weight version of the acclaimed J3, for those with tighter budgets or needs which are a little more modest. But that doesn’t mean the Samsung Galaxy J3 Prime lacks anything whatsoever. The hardware specs and performance are both outstanding for the price point. And with good reason.
Fortunately for the rest of us, the development that goes into the Galaxy S means some of the advancements in technology and performance make their way downstream. What we end up with is mid-range phones which are almost on a par with many other makers’ near top-end models.
The DNA which has been passed down makes the J3 Prime a serious contender for anybody’s money.
Inside and Out the Samsung Galaxy J3 Prime
In all honesty, there isn’t much about the design of the case for the Samsung Galaxy J3 Prime which makes it too different. It’s incredibly neat and surprisingly slim. All too often all but the top-end smartphones seem to get stuck in the thick cases of 2 or 3 years ago, but not this time. Overall, the J3 Prime measures 5.54 x 2.76 x 0.34 inches, it’s compact enough to hold comfortably. It is also, though, big enough to house a lovely 5″ 720p HD display. The J3 Prime weighs 5.2 oz, which is slightly below average for any device with a 5″ display.
The display quality is excellent, with close to perfect color reproduction and very good sharpness. There’s also an ambient light sensor, which causes the display to change brightness depending on the surrounding light levels.
The J3 Prime has a quad-core processor and has 16GB of internal storage. Should you need more, you can add a further 128GB via the MicroSD card slot. The battery is a very useful 2600mAh, packing in 9hrs talk time, 71hrs music playback, 13hrs video, or up to 13hrs online use.
Front and Rear Cameras
The rear camera is 5MP and has autofocus and flash. You can also record 1080p Full HD video. The front camera is 2MP and also produces excellent quality pictures.
Connectivity
The J3 Prime is unlocked from any network, meaning you can put any SIM into the phone that you choose. You will have access to 4G mobile data speeds, as well as 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.1, and GPS.
In short, if you need to connect to any network, mobile or Wi-Fi, you can.
Operating System
The J3 Prime uses Android, the most popular mobile operating system in the world. It comes ready-loaded with Android 7, but Samsung has indicated that Android 8 Oreo will be available mid-late 2018.

Summary of the Samsung Galaxy J3 Prime
If the Galaxy S range is out of reach, there are alternatives. The J3 Prime is one of them, and it provides incredible value for money. A smartphone at this level, at this price, is difficult to beat. The fact that it delivers exactly what it promises makes it almost a no-brainer.

If you choose to return your device, you will receive the full refund. Mr Aberthon does not charge any additional restocking or handling fees. In order to qualify for the return policy, the product ID number will have to match the number on the device that we sent out (to protect us against scammers and fraud) and the device will need to still be in mint condition.
