The Galaxy J3, aka Express Prime 2, is a mid-range offering from smartphone leaders Samsung. Great technical specs and high performance, the Prime Express 2 goes beyond almost any other device in its class.
Samsung release more smartphones than probably any other manufacturer. Thankfully, they also realized some time ago that there was huge demand for quality devices outside the flagship Galaxy S range. With that in mind, they offer smartphones such as the Galaxy Prime Express 2, also known as the Galaxy J3, that are high-spec and high-performance but low price.\
Is it a competitor to the Galaxy S range? Well, no, but nor is it meant to be. The Galaxy J3 is squarely for those with above-average needs from a smartphone, but for whom the Galaxy S would be overkill. A quad-core, 64bit processor drives the whole thing, with a useful 1.5GB of RAM and 16GB built-in storage.
If you do a lot of movie watching or like to carry your entire music collection around, you’re all set to go there too. The Express Prime 2 has a MicroSD card slot, where you can add a further 256GB of storage, if necessary.
The 2600mAh battery gives a fantastic 22 hours of talk time or 10 days of standby. If media is your thing, then you can look forward to 13 and 71 hours of playback for movies and music respectively.
The 5MP rear camera is capable of recording 1080p FullHD video, as well as outstanding images. Cameras included in Samsung smartphones have always been excellent and this is no exception. The rear camera also has LED flash, autofocus, geo-tagging, a self-timer, plus several photography-based manual controls. There’s also panorama and HDR features. Digital Image Stabilization is also present, for shaky hands or darker environments.
The front camera, at 2MP is easily enough for all those selfies. You can also record 640 x 480 SD video, which is very useful for a front camera.
The display on which you’ll be viewing all these pictures and videos is also outstanding. 5 inches in size, with a 720p HD resolution, the colors are clear and rich and movies really come to life on screen. The display also has an ambient light sensor for optimal brightness whatever the viewing conditions.
The Samsung Galaxy Prime Express 2 has fast 4G mobile data for the best possible browsing or streaming experience. Bluetooth 4.2 makes it quick and easy to connect bluetooth accessories or an in-car handsfree system. There’s A-GPS with Glonass for incredibly accurate location services or navigation. WiFi 802.11 b/g/n also has mobile hotspot and tethering built in for easy connection sharing.
The Express Prime 2 is not locked to any network. Using it overseas is as easy as buying a local SIM card and adding it to the phone. This means compatibility with networks in over 160 countries around the world. Cheap data SIMs are now at your fingertips, wherever you are. It also means that you can switch between US networks at any time (contract allowing). No longer are the best deals always somewhere else. Now you can go get them.
When we look at devices like the Samsung Galaxy Prime Express 2, we often wonder how it can try to stand up against models costing 3 or 4 times as much. But it does so quite favorably. You can argue that it’s a little way behind the Galaxy S range, but it’s not by much.
Mid-range devices like this are now far more than old technology dressed up in new clothes just to sell outdated parts that manufacturers have lying around. Instead, they are viable alternatives for a lot less money.
Go on, Express yourself.
