As series’ of smartphones go, there are few manufacturers who manage to produce an entire range that doesn’t have a turkey hidden somewhere in the line-up.Nokia, later taken over by Microsoft, however, managed to do just that with the Lumia range. The 530 (together making the Nokia Lumia 530) is officially considered an entry level Lumia phone. Yet it is one of the standout smartphones in a standout range of quality devices.
Microsoft haven’t always got things right with their operating systems for phones. However, from Windows 8 it was clear that they’d not just got it right, but they’d got it very right indeed. Firstly, the beauty of a Windows phone is that it syncs perfectly and seamlessly with a Windows PC environment with very little effort on the part of the user. Secondly, the Lumia 530 is designed just to work as you’d expect it to. Deceptively powerful and yet refreshingly easy to use, forget that entry level price point, this is definitely a top level smartphone.

It Doesn’t sound Like “Entry Level”?
No, it doesn’t sound entry level. The fact that it is officially the entry level model according to Microsoft shows just how good the Lumia range really is. Nowhere else will a smartphone at this price point get you all the features and high specifications that you see above. Furthermore add the fact that the capacitive screen can be set up to work even with gloves on (at the expense of some battery life). It is a feature only commonly found on higher end smartphones. Hence it is quickly becoming obvious that the Lumia 530 punches miles above its weight. Pound for pound, this is the Sugar Ray Leonard of smartphones.
If It’s So Good, Why pay More For Another Lumia?
Well, it should be noted that one or two compromises have been made in order to keep the price down. There’s no front camera and no flash on the rear camera. Regardless, to all intents and purposes, this is a much better phone than the price would ever suggest.
There’s a reason why Nokia were, for so long, the kings of mobile phone manufacturing. Some poor marketing and design decisions a few years ago meant they fell behind others somewhat, but the Lumia range is a match for anything Apple or Samsung can bring to the table. Because this can be done for such a great price makes some other smartphone prices (yes you, Apple!) look a little like milking a cash cow.
The Nokia Lumia 530 in a Summary
Okay, so it’s not a Lumia 925, but the Nokia Lumia 530 didn’t get to become one of the biggest selling smartphones ever by not being very good. It certainly solid, powerful and has an operating system that the whole world is already comfortable with. It has a price tag that demands a second look and it has the backup of one of the world’s biggest technology companies.
The Lumia 530 is a fantastic device, without a doubt, and deserves its position among the great and good of smartphone history.
