Motorola have been producing superb mobile devices for what feels like forever. The Moto X Pro takes the range into Phablet territory, with its 6″ display. With Motorola’s trademark style and performance, it’s one of the best large format smartphones available. The Moto X Pro achieved a Mr Aberthon ranking of 9.6/10 and is fully covered under our 14 Day Returns Policy.
As you might imagine, the X in Moto X Pro indicates extra. Extra size, extra power, just about extra everything, in fact. Motorola have been at the forefront of mobile device manufacture for as long as they have existed. They were, in fact, Google’s manufacturer of choice for its Nexus range. It’s an indication that Motorola devices are at the top of the tree. The Moto X Pro is no exception to that.
Of course, being the larger “phablet” format, the overall size of the Moto X Pro is noticeable. At 6.27 x 3.27 x 0.40 inches, it can at first feel very large. But the adjustment is surprisingly easy to make, and you’ll have forgotten about it in a day or two. The upside of the large size is a huge and glorious 6″ display. If you’ve ever played games or watched movies on a larger screen, you’ll know how great it is. If you haven’t, you’re missing one of the true joys of owning a larger smartphone.
Despite that extra size, the weight of the Moto X Pro is only 6.44oz. This is only about half an ounce more than the flagship iPhone and Galaxy S models. This makes it far easier to carry than you might at first think.
The resolution of the Moto X Pro display is a splendid 1440 x 2560 QuadHD affair. On a 6″ screen, the clarity, and color is just about as good as it can be. At this size and resolution, suddenly details in movies get a lot clearer, and photos look fabulous.
Speaking of photos, the rear camera is 13 MP, with dual LED flash, touch-to focus, face and smile detection and HDR imaging. The front camera is a more modest but still respectable 2.1 MP. Where the Moto X Pro cameras come into their own is with the video recording specs. The front camera can capture 1080p Full HD video, which is an excellent bonus. The rear camera, though, goes much further.
The rear 13MP camera can record video in full 4K resolution. If you’ve never seen such a resolution in action, try and do so. If you can access a 4K monitor or Smart TV, check out YouTube where there are tons of them. You’ll never be happy with ordinary HD again. Think about it as future-proofing. You may not have a 4K TV just yet, but that doesn’t mean you can’t start shooting the videos for when you do.
As well as Bluetooth 4 for connection to in-car systems and accessories such as speakers, there’s lots more going on with the Moto X Pro. Wi-Fi speeds up to 80211.ac for the fastest possible network speeds is also here. NFC for wireless file transfer and payment services, A-GPS for superior location services and a TV output make up the set.
In short, if you need to connect the Moto X Pro to another device, it’s easy and quick.
The processor is a 2.7GHz quad core CPU, and a dedicated graphics chip. There’s also a choice of 16GB or 32GB internal storage.
The larger case of the Moto X Pro means there’s room for a huge battery, and Motorola haven’t disappointed. The 3220mAh battery will provide a whopping 245hrs of talk time or 14 days of standby.
If you like the idea of a larger format smartphone, look no further. The Motorola Moto X Pro ticks just about every box it needs to, and then some.
The stunning display is almost cinematic in comparison to many smartphones. Despite this, the ease with which the Moto X Pro can be carried and used, even one handed is remarkable. There’s lots in the Moto X pro to like, love even, and little not to be.
Proof that big sometimes isn’t just better, but much better, the Moto X pro deserves its place among the elite of the genre.
